Description: Acrylic and flashe on paper, this work follows Davis' enduring interest in the fragmented experience embodied by a long life. Since 2009 the artist has explored fragments of paintings as full paintings. This recent work on paper brings a light-hearted approach to the complexity of figure-ground relationships through abrupt shifts in visual expectations. The eye has trouble landing in this destabilizing composition, not unlike a butterfly seeking nectar.
